It’s true that the medications do not treat the cause, so they leave the underlying inflammation process continuing on into the next autoimmune disease. Thus Hashi’s is a “gateway” autoimmune concern. You are smart to improve that! If I were a person with a thyroid issue and wanted to nourish and support my thyroid, so my body could better take care of itself, I’d look at the comprehensive elements that are involved:

  • Antioxidant support with acetyl glutathione, superoxide dismutase, catalase
  • Methylation pathways via methlyfolate/cobalamine or hydroxocobalamine
  • Supporting mitochondrial ATP production
  • Normalizing iodine/iodide with ample intake (but not to be done when the TPO is high, because it will encourage thyroid activity and the generation of more free radicals and thus more autoimmune activity-- in some cases Selenium helps lower TPOab at 600mcg daily for 6-12 weeks and thus serves as an antioxidant and a helper for T4 to T3 conversion)
  • Support via essential fatty acids -- the thyroid requires fats!--especially a wide array--nine--phospholipids that support the cell membranes including the mitochondrial cristae from which ATP is beta-oxidized
  • Botanical thyroid tissue support
  • Adrenal support-- particularly if there is an elevated reverse T3 (rT3) lab report
